Timaru-Tekapo-Twizel-Tekapo-Timaru

Let yourself be allured to the magnificent beauty of the Mackenzie Basin. Experience the first section of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail starting from Lake Tekapo. Meander your way to Twizel and soak in the breathtaking views of Aoraki/Mt Cook, the Southern Alps, and Lake Pukaki enroute. Cycling distances range from the full 54km ride, or 40km starting from Irishman Creek, or 19km from the Lake Pukaki Foreshore Trail to Twizel. Shuttle back to Tekapo for a second night. Direct flight from Wellington to Timaru.

This itinerary is a guideline only and can be tailored to suit your group. Additional days and activities can be added. Please check out the other packages - they may give you ideas. Pricing is based on a group of four (the ideal number for a package). All tours incur a 10% commission based on the total cost of the package. All tours are self-guided. Accommodation is subject to availability. Some of the accommodation may be more expensive in the peak season from January - April.

Two Overnights in Tekapo

Dormitory

  • Shared dormitory, shared bathroom and kitchen facilities; ensuite room $99per night; double or twin with shared bathroom $89per room per night; $32pp per night in a six bed dorm, shared facilities

Cabin

  • Standard Cabin; $93 per couple for one night plus $25 for each adult; $15 per extra child; shared facilities
  • chalet cabins with ensuite = sleep max. 4 @ $160 for first two; $25pp thereafter

Standard

  • Family suites; max. four persons per unit with basic kitchen facilities $180 per night plus $35pp per extra bed; Studio $180, two people - one bed
  • Apartment; shared bathroom and kitchen $70pp
  • Lake Front Kiwi Bach; sleeps 8; $325 for four people, extra adult $25/night and extra child $15/night

Superior

  • $520 per night, sleeps 8
  • Cottage style, self contained home $320 per night, sleeps 4

Luxury

  • Luxury B & B includes continental breakfast $240 per room per night, typically couples accommodation; max 6 couples
  • The Cairns Alpine Cottages; from $250 for two people, $50/additional adult; super king splits can accommodate singles. Max 4 persons per cottage
  • Luxury; self contained home for six people $570 per night; max 6 but the studio next door sleeps 2

Shuttles

  • Tekapo - Twizel only; $160 group
  • pick up and return to Timaru Airport, $100pp (five or more max. $500 for the group)
