Tour de Tekapo

There are great cycling options in the surrounds of Lake Tekapo. You don’t have to go far to see the famous Church of the Good Shepherd, the Dog Monument, ride along the lake shore, and explore the Regional Park trails, and up to Cowan’s Hill for 360 degree views of the Mackenzie Basin, the Southern Alps, Aoraki/Mt Cook, and Lake Tekapo. Continue along Cowan’s Hill and back to Tekapo via the Cowan’s Hill trail. Included in the price is a bike, helmet, map, and briefing for your self guided exploration.

Prices: $25 for one hour; two hours = $30.00; three hours = $35.00; four hours = $40.00. All prices are per bike.

CANAL and Cowan’s Hill CRUISE

This is a popular, self-guided, safe ride - there is no thoroughfare for vehicles on the canal road. We shuttle you from Tekapo Village to the starting point close to Irishman Creek.  From there, cycle along the canal road back to Tekapo Village and continue onto the Cowan’s Hill trail and back into the village. This is a great half day trip and takes in great scenery. The total distance is approximately 22km.

Price, $60 pp. includes bike, helmet, map, briefing, and shuttle.

Minimum number of participants for this trip is two.

Pass to Pass

Cycle the Mackenzie Pass to Burkes Pass. Choose your distances for this undulating ride. We suggest the following;

Short: 19km from the Mackenzie Monument to Burkes Pass

Medium: 25km from Mackenzie Pass Road to Burkes Pass

Long: 39km from Dog Kennel Corner to Burkes Pass, via the Mackenzie Pass.

On your arrival in Burkes Pass grab a coffee and check out the historical sites before your shuttle back to Tekapo. The sites include St. Patricks Church (1872), Paddy's Market Station Homestead, The Blacksmith and General Store, The Musterer’s Hut, and the Mount Cook Road Board Office.
