Alps to Ocean, flying from Mount Cook to Tasman Point to begin the journey.

We support the breathtakingly beautiful alpine stages of the Alps 2 Ocean (A2O) journey between Tekapo and Omarama. In three days, you can complete three alpine stages.

Day one; 54km - begin your ride from Tekapo and cruise the canals to Twizel taking in the stunning Lake Pukaki shoreline trail en route.

Day two; 38km - Twizel to Lake Ohau Lodge. Or, 45km to Lake Ohau Quarters.

Day three; 41km - Lake Ohau Lodge to Omarama ; fitness and skill is considered intermediate for stage three. For all stages of this journey, a reasonable standard of fitness is required as distances, wind and heat may factor into the enjoyment factor.

The base cost of a self guided trip is as follows:

Bike hire is $50.00/bike/day, includes pannier rack, bags, and helmet.

The shuttle service between Tekapo and Omarama, or Tekapo and Lake Ohau including Lake Ohau Lodge and Lake Ohau Quarters is $160.00 per group. Food and accommodation is extra. This is arranged by us, or you - as you prefer. A2O accommodation providers do attractive, reasonably priced package deals for cyclists that includes dinner, bed, breakfast, and a packed lunch (on request).

We can support the A2O stage from Omarama to Oamaru. Please send your requirements so we can make those tour arrangements.

A2O from Tekapo via Braemar Road

For a fantastic four or five day tour we suggest a slight variation to the A2O route but you will still be largely on the A2O trail.

Day one; 21km - Tekapo to Braemar Station via Braemar Road or continue up to Mount Cook Station. Both options give you a farm stay experience and stunning views.

Day two; 42km - Hayman Road following the lake Pukaki shoreline to the Pukaki Visitor Centre then across the Pukaki Flats to Twizel. Take in some non-cycling activities such as a biplane flight over the Alps from the Pukaki airport.

Day three: 38km - Twizel to Ohau staying at Lake Ohau Lodge or 45kms to Lake Ohau Quarters which is well worth the effort! Lake Ohau Quarters will spoil you with a hot tub.

Day four: Ohau to Omarama - 41km from Lake Ohau Lodge, or 48km from Lake Ohau Quarters.

You can complete this journey over four or five days. Some people take a rest day at Ohau. Five days is optimal so you get some relaxation time. Enjoy another well-earned soak in a hot tub at the Omarama Hot Tubs, or an adventurous glider flight at the end of your journey.

Bike hire for the A2O stages is $50.00/bike/day

Shuttle between Tekapo and Omarama, or Tekapo and Lake Ohau including Lake Ohau Lodge and Lake Ohau Quarters is $270.00 per group
